Who's up for it?

Get a group of us travelling down for the biggest UK LAN party.

I have been to loads of these so if you have any questions about the event, location, jargon etc then give me a shout il help you out.

If we could get a group of 5 together we could even enter a tourney as a team, which would be excellent (even if we would get totally fucking pwned in the first round)

The event runs from Thursday 9th April (If you pay for Early Arrival, which you should) until Monday 13th.

Its about a 8hr drive if you stick to the speed limit.

Surely we could arrange a convoy of two or three cars to go down together. I think that would be awesome.

IF you are interested, respond / PM me AS SOON AS POSSABLE. It is critical to get sorted out quickly as seating is done on a first come first served basis.

Check out http://www.multiplay.co.uk for more information

Shame you couldn't have chosen the summer lan. I only have the cash to go to one per year and at the August lan all of my friends and clan mates congregate for much drunken fun :D

If this idea doesn't go ahead and you re-arrange something for the summer I'll definetely be in.

gemini

Alright sam :)

Have you been to Stoneleigh Park yet ?

I want to organise a trip for this one though because I will be staff at the other events this year.

MadmaN

I see what happened now - I clicked on your name and posted a message thinking that was a PM but it's a public message under your profile. I've deleted that and sent you it as a PM.

confusing to say the least.

Have you been to Stoneleigh Park yet ?

Yeah, I have. It's bloody huge :o

That's fair enough mate. I can see why you'd rather organise a trip to this one.

Will no doubt see you at the summer one if you're staffing.

gemini
21st January 2009, 11:34 AM
IF any more of the breachlan crowd would like a trip down, we can surely arrange one more car. Two more players would give us a team which would make it most enjoyable for us :)

Even if you have just a curiosity, respond back im sure I can convince you to come down :)

gemini
21st January 2009, 03:15 PM
I had a quick chat with Dave this morning who seems interested, and Dave is a motorist.

All we need is one more and we have a team :) If one more is interested, then between the five of us we have transport, and a team, the first two big hurdles in sorting a trip.

I really want to sort this out. This would be my first trip to an i-series as part of a team :) It would be awesome to enter a big LAN tournament, and enjoy the exhebition without the pressure of having to fix everyone elses computers.

Please speak up if you would like more information, or to come along :)

Castiana
21st January 2009, 03:41 PM
I'd be intrested, but i'm not sure i can afford it.

gemini
21st January 2009, 08:28 PM
Il send u a PM later tomorrow Castiana. Showing how we can keep the cost right down for everone.

It's worth doing for a month or two without a few luxuries to be able to save to go :)

Castiana

I shall await said PM.

gemini

Il forward you the PM aswell. £200 would be quite comfortable :)

Bloodnok
22nd January 2009, 06:05 PM
Can I see this PM aswell please

MadmaN
22nd January 2009, 07:02 PM
Wowzers ,going by your PM it could be an expensive trip , it's a dam shame they dont allow you to bring in alcoholl from tesco or something.

i recon 250 to 300 for me Maybe. .. its realy hard to say .. depens how much booze i want lol . do people drink outside before going back in the building? lol , sneak some shots in haha.

gemini
23rd January 2009, 07:47 AM
Its due to the fact the building is a licenced premesis. Its nothing to do with Multiplay not allowing it, its the british government not allowing it. While you can drink in your tent you cant anywhere else on site. And let me say, the security are good.

I personally plan on spending about £250 - £300 myself. That would be very comfortable for the entire event.

Dave, PM incoming.

MadmaN
23rd January 2009, 11:32 AM

gemini
24th January 2009, 12:45 PM

I have sent PM's to everybody who has expressed an intrest so far. I would like to get the ball rolling and i'm happy to be the first to buy my ticket to prove im serious about the trip :)

I'l be booking my ticket on Thursday probably. I'l post a screenie up with my proof of payment / booking. :)

how many points do you get if your signup and pay? ;) lol and whats the TUP: £120.00 option lol

gemini
27th January 2009, 12:45 PM
how many points do you get if your signup and pay? ;) lol and whats the TUP: £120.00 option lol

If you signup and pay your points is set at maximum and can not be altered from there.

The Turn up and play option is aimed at european clans who are not able to come normally because they cant get their computers on the planes. You pay £120.00, and you get a Packard Bell iPower computer and 17" monitor given to you for the duration of the LAN. They are all set up before you arrive so all you have to do is, Turn Up and Play.

Its not without its limitations though. You cant sit in with the main LAN (would be too easy for machines to go walkies) and instead sit in a seperate area. I wouldnt pay for it on the grounds that

1) If I was going to be sat in TUP area while rest of clan was elsewhere, I wouldnt be interested
2) If entire clan was to be sat in TUP area, I would find a LAN party in my own country.

Put it simply, don't take that option. Standard BYOC + EAS is the way to go.

MadmaN
27th January 2009, 04:43 PM
whats team games do they play? cod4 ect?

gemini
27th January 2009, 05:45 PM
Anything and everything mate. The biggest games are CSS and CoD4 but over my i-series have seen everything from RedAlert2, Warcraft3, Flatout, Civilisation, Worms, Re-Volt, Armagedtron, literally everything.

It's the standard of play and the atmosphere I look forward too tbh. The saturday night party is always brilliant. We have a good ammount of drink, an awesome pub quiz, a boat race then more drink into the night.

gemini
30th January 2009, 07:24 AM
As a quick heads up for everyone (Thanks for reminging me Stu)

When you try to book EAS, it asks for a reason. The reason is no longer particularly valid so dont worry about it. However, you should put something like "Long drive from Scotland" in the reason box. It doesnt really matter.

Also, when you create your accounts, it will ask for a clan name. Use BreachLAN (case sensitive). Again its not as relevant as it once was but it might help us sort seating.

Thanks :)

panda_sam
30th January 2009, 11:21 AM
Guys, I saw the thing about booze mentioned earlier. It's entirely possible for you to buy booze from tesco. If you're camping, they're quite happy for you to drink in/in front of your tent as long as you're not too noisy and clean up after yourselves.

I spent most of the last lan sat under a big Jolt marquee very very drunk.

gemini
30th January 2009, 04:14 PM
Thanks for that Sam. :)

MadmaN
30th January 2009, 05:52 PM

gemini
6th February 2009, 02:34 PM
Dave, log in to the seat picker and give me control of your seat. I will then plonk us down together somewhere. I'l space us out so no randoms should sit inbetween us and that should give time for others to pay and fill in the gaps.

NiceGuy if you are in on helping pay for our fuel, you are in on the journey :)

We are going for EAS and leaving probably early afternoon on the last day. Depending on how we feel we might hang around for the raffle then clear off immediately after that. See how we feel. But it will definately be a Monday departure.

Let me know if thats a problem.

NiceGuy
6th February 2009, 04:13 PM
Thats not a problem, i just really need to get down! Of course i will chip in for fuel! I wouldnt dream of not! lol!!

gemini
7th February 2009, 12:31 PM
Excellent.

It has just became more important that speed is increased.

Multiplay have announced that at this lan there is potential the exhebition will be in the same hall as the LAN. If we are to get seats as far away from the exhebition as possable then we need to hurry up.

Dave can you please let me know when you have given me control of your seat.

Stu can you please do that AS SOON as you have paid.

And can ZeroG and Castiana please let me know when you plan on paying for the LAN.

Thanks everyone :)

gemini
10th February 2009, 07:00 PM
Thats me, Bloodnok, MAdMan and ZeroG all in position. Depending on Madmans mate and Castiana when they find out we may have to move to keep everyone together.

Thank you everyone for your efforts this far.

With 4 of us signed up now we can start planning the journey and getting other things in place to make the trip as great as we can make it.

I get home from work around 9pm tomorrow. I will start the process of sorting things out first thing thursday morning and I will have info available to discuss with everyone at Breachlan.

Everyone for now though sit back and relax. We have gotten over the biggest hurdle in organising a group trip of this nature.

I am looking forward to this now more than ever before. We are in for a great time.

Everyone should have sorted themselves out by the time breachlan comes. So I will have the bulk of the plan in place for you all then.

Take care everyone. Thanks :)

MadmaN
10th February 2009, 07:34 PM
Thanks Gemini will tell m8 to pass seat onto you!

i see ZeroG is sat under diff section from us lol.

Technically it doesnt. But they are designed so like minded gamers are always sat together.

Negator
11th February 2009, 05:17 PM
i-series is overrated unless you plan to meet lots of online peeps who are down south. went to i18 and it was a big expense and generally a bit crap. Smaller lans are the win.

MadmaN
11th February 2009, 05:37 PM
maybe so .. but its differnt and something new for a change!!!

gemini
11th February 2009, 09:39 PM
I disagree.

I love going to lans of all sizes. All have pro's and con's. The sheer scale of the I-Series makes it an awesome experiance.

MadmaN
12th February 2009, 04:02 AM

Hey guys at the LAN I had an idea about having a Car-to-Car Wireless Network between us for the journey to i36 :)

I found this video on youtube and it gives you an idea of what you can do , Netmeeting Voice and Video Conference over lan, small games plus other stuff :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp72RbwDW80

I'm going to buy this access point very soon which has 2 big antennas on it which would network us together.

http://www.3000rpm.com/acatalog/TP-Link_TL-WR841N_300Mbps_Wireless_802.11n_Router.html

let me know what you think?

6th March 2009, 04:12 PM
Certainly would be a good laugh and a geeky thing to do on the way down.

Bearing in mind though we have no power points it would need to be quick. But if you guys could complete a game of anything it would be absolutely hillarious

itsmyyard
6th March 2009, 04:16 PM
Couldnt you just use in car adapters with the cigartte lighter as a source of powerpoint?

gemini
6th March 2009, 04:22 PM
No.

Those things draw a MASSIVE current. Like, upwards of 40A constantly. That is bad for the battery. Plus its dangerous to have that level of current anywhere near you.

Plus it is likely to take out the fuse on the ciggarette lighter. Which could have things like the stereo linked into it. Then we would have an 8hr drive and no Stereo.

ZeroG
6th March 2009, 04:30 PM
...and have to listen to madman singing O.o

MadmaN
6th March 2009, 04:31 PM
ye! how much are adapters? or does anyone have one spare we can borrow?

MadmaN
6th March 2009, 04:38 PM
dad said it should be fine, he said the radio is linked to the main power source diff from lighter socket.

would need something to power the access point atleast. and have laptops fully charged.

MadmaN
6th March 2009, 04:39 PM

Sinner
6th March 2009, 08:59 PM
was planning on it but i cant this year, lack of funds and the fact i have to work monday the 13th as its a bank holiday ... GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

gemini
7th March 2009, 12:25 PM
Taking a UPS would take up space that we just dont have.

I have confirmed nothing is coming from Galashiels so we have three people planned for each car as it is atm. There simply is not space for other stuff like a UPS bearing in mind we will have more kit than we would have for a breachlan. (Camping stuff etc)

The invertor devices as far as I am concerned are dangerous and I will not allow one to be used in my car. To draw 40A constantly from the battery will reduce the quality of the battery, risk taking out other electronics in the car, and quite frankly they are dangerous.

MadmaN
7th March 2009, 03:13 PM
we could try just networking both cars pc to pc without a wireless router but it wont be as powerfull connection.

gemini
7th March 2009, 06:32 PM
Between two cars surely the standard laptop signals should be enough.

Create an ad-hoc network from whatever laptop has more beef. Then on the way down me and Dave just stick close. Surely that should be strong enough.

gemini
10th March 2009, 12:22 PM
Breachlan now has five members paid up and ready for the LAN.

We can participate in either one of the two main tournaments. So what would you guys prefer.

CounterStrike Source or Call of Duty 4

Also, expect an information pack coming out in a weeks time detailing who is taking who, pickup locations, equipment requirements etc etc.

ZeroG
10th March 2009, 12:38 PM
Although I'm not particularly good at either I would prefer CoD4 over CS.

Castiana
10th March 2009, 03:08 PM

gemini

Just a wee update, My dad is trying to get a gearbox for a Mini (not that BMW half arsed) from Birmingham and wants me to pick it up while we are on the return journey from I series, Its not big nor heavy but I will be taking an empty box thats the same size, making sure there is space for it.

I have been told that it should be clean.

Hopefully everyone will be ok with this

Shouldnt be a problem to sort out a gearbox. I wont be following you into Birmingham to collect it, we should be avoiding unecessary miles.

I still though would highly encourage your dad to pay for shipping. In my experiance, the drive home from an I-Series is much harder than the drive down there. I am usually not in the best of moods and only interested in getting home. Adding extra miles and time to the journey is something im just not going to do unless absolutely necessary.

MadmaN
25th March 2009, 02:49 PM
found 1 tent , just need to find the other one , then i need to build them and air them out.

ye all you want to do is go home asap and get back to your home comforts! your own bed ect.

im taking the single air bed, it folds up into a bag it dont take much room, it will make such a difference to your sleep. you can pickup a single air bed for a tenner from asda!

MadmaN
30th March 2009, 01:15 PM
Ok scrap the idea of taking an single air bed. because there aint enough room as once its blown up it would leave the person lying next to me squashed up against the tent lol.

we have 2 options! just take a camping mat OR we could use a double air bed.
Im ok with sharing if anyone else! i wont try and rape you or anything haha so your safe there :D

in return of using an double airbed you get great comfyness which = a better nights sleep! instead of a rock hard ground lol.

what do you think?

gemini
4th April 2009, 03:55 PM
That's good news.

Everyone should now be seriously starting to go through the list of things to do before the event.

Use http://gameshadow.com to make sure all your games are up to date. Then make sure you have an up to date NOCD crack applied to every game.

Also, make sure Steam is up to date. Delete your clientregistry.blob file and make sure you know your Steam account username and password off by heart. Please don't keep your passwords saved. This includes web saved passwords.

Stop all file sharing on your computer. Including windows file shares and shared printers. Make sure you have no P2P, Newsgroup or DC++ applications running by default. This includes sharing within iTunes should you have iTunes sharing enabled.

Fast Passes are now available to print off. Print your off then KEEP IT SAFE AND ACCESSABLE. The point in saving a few minutes on your check in is kind of pointless if you need to spend half an hour digging it out the bottom of your bag.

If you do not have any equipment, now is the time to get it.

MadmaN
4th April 2009, 05:43 PM
why do we need to log in manually? forgot you said someone might come up and use your computer? in that case i shall lock my system each time i leave it!

gemini
4th April 2009, 06:06 PM
It's something you should do for every LAN party. Not just I-Series.

But there is software available on the internet which allows ones saved password to be "recovered" from a clientregistry.blob file. Even if you remember to lock your PC it is possable that someone put some kind of program onto a USB memory stick capable of recovering the clientregistry.blob file.

Bloodnok
4th April 2009, 07:55 PM

well if in that case it don't matter if you login manually or not , they will get your details! :/ it's a scary thought when you have spent allot of money on games on steam.

gemini
5th April 2009, 08:04 AM
It is.

But its the same as every other big pubilc event.

There are some people there who just can not be trusted and you should try to make sure you don't get any problems from them.

@ Dave, as long as your security cable is capable of attaching your computer to your desk it should be ok. The desks are similar to Breachlan ones so you can loop the cable round the leg and then attach it to your computer.

48 Hours from now I will be en-route.

Everybody should now seriously be starting to go through the kit list. Search for the kit you dont have and post here anything you have extra.

I still have one spare security lock for anyone who would like it.

If you havn't started disabling your shares and everything then now would be a good time to get cracking on things like that.

I'm dead excited. See everyone Thursday.

gemini

Usually when im at the i-series I have one for my computer, one for each of my screens and one for my laptop (staff h4x)

This time obviously though I can only take one screen and there isnt any point in taking the laptop so I only need the two.

MadMan and ZeroG have the other two for their laptops. Everyone else should look into getting their own as soon as possable.

1) Photo Identification
2) Cash / Cashcards / Credit Cards

Please also for the start of the journey tomorrow please have £60 cash ready to add into the fuel kitty. (This is a generous kitty and will result in us having plenty change at the end, its just one of those things we should have a big buffer with)

If you have any questions, hesitations, or would like any information then please don't hesitate to call me. I'l take as long as anyone needs.

If anyone doesnt have my phone number, then PLEASE find it from someone else AS SOON AS POSSABLE.

It is important that we have everyone elses phone number so in the event of a problem we have the ability to keep in communication.

This is currently the way I have rende'vous arranged.

ZeroG - Pickup from home (8:15)
Castiana - Pickup from home (8:30)
NiceGuy - Be at Dave's house tomorrow morning at a time agreed with Dave (the earlier the better).
