I had actually thought of this, possibly after i've finished academy (would be brilliant to do dreamhack, iSeries, a few breachLANS all in one year :D)

If those are the dates (19-22 june) then I can say that I can't do this due to the need to take time off school, which I can't really afford.

MadmaN
10th January 2010, 08:29 PM
Well its not confirmed.

Finally a big lan that's cheaper than an i-series...... :D

gemini

What do you know... it would appear that those provisional dates are when I am off work.

Now I just need to sort a Laptop and travel info.

I'd be really interested in this. Are people thinking of organising to go together or just on their own ?

gemini
11th January 2010, 02:38 PM
Got to be a together trip.

I'm looking into the costs of travel right now. Ryanair FTW.

MadmaN
11th January 2010, 02:47 PM
Yeh its gotta be a breachlan trip... that way we are sat together ect....

Quick glance at Ryanair website.

Departing Glasgow on Fri 18th June 10:30am, Retrurning to Glasgow on The 24th (Gives a day free in Gothenburg).

£240 from Glasgow-Gothenburg

£115 from Gothenburg-Glasgow (for some reason this flight has no taxes)

To put that in context, thats £355 return, for FIVE PEOPLE (not each, FIVE)

Giving us a grand total of £71 each. That is with ONE hold bag up to 15kg and carry on luggage (COMPUTERS).

If you can fit your computer and clothes into carry on baggage (unlikely but its up to you if you want to try it) then you can deduct THIRTY POUNDS from the cost of your flights.

Travel insurance is £14 each extra.

(God I love Ryanair)

That is also web check in being absolutely mandatory.

Just to start chucking some numbers out there. Next stage is from the airport to the LAN venue. And a hotel (Dreamhack sleeping room is renouned for being teh worst nights sleep you can possibly have, 10,000 people sharing communal sleeping space.......no thanks)

Just to add ... I am a nervous flyer and had a little problem coming home from prague.. but the air hostess moved me seats and spoke to me and then i felt great .... plus the flight was only an hour lol.

Aslong as i get aisle seat then i should be fine....anyway will be with you guys this time and not alone lol ... keep my mind on the hot swedish women and i should be fine lol

Looks like I would be taking my laptop on this one (need to sort out heating issues) as current pc maybe small but not for overseas...

Crud, if i want to go to this I need to buy a gaming laptop....

MadmaN
12th January 2010, 10:55 AM
unless you want drive it accross? lol

gemini
12th January 2010, 11:20 AM
The Ovlov would cope easy with that. I for sure though will be buying a laptop if I go on this trip.

ZeroG
12th January 2010, 12:20 PM
I better get my laptop sorted out then :)

MadmaN
12th January 2010, 12:28 PM
and me lol.

gemini
12th January 2010, 12:31 PM
Before going much further I'd like to have a few more people checking if I indeed have the correct airport. I'm seeing smoe evidence to suggest that I have the wrong airport in my guesstimates.

Deep Blue
12th January 2010, 12:35 PM
A ferry from the south of england to denmark is £560 with 4 people sharing a cabin with one bog.... plus its then another 300 miles to gothenburg.... ouch

I have no doubts the Ovlov would eat 2000 miles for breakfast and ask for seconds, but I will have to see how finances go because gaming laptops ain't cheap and i'll be flying.... :P

gemini
12th January 2010, 12:38 PM
Definately. Although I agree that both our cars could just eat the miles I'l not be driving thousands of miles through several foreign countries where I have no foreign insurance, breakdown cover or any knowledge of the language.

I'l be flying if I go.

MadmaN
12th January 2010, 12:42 PM
no safe way you can take full systems on the flight?

gemini
12th January 2010, 01:00 PM
I wouldnt trust them to keep a bag of crisps in one piece never mind a computer.

For you mate id look into monitor rental while abroad.

ZeroG
12th January 2010, 01:20 PM
You could look into the option of courier for a full system but that just adds what I would think would be quite a high cost.

MadmaN
12th January 2010, 01:36 PM
probs just end up taking the laptop tbh.

13th January 2010, 05:28 PM
Couldn't go to this, who would want to go home after? (More specifically the country)

I've been to dreamhack a couple of times now and i'm planning on heading out again at some point so if you want any help or anything just ask away and I'll try to help you.

There is usually a group from www.epiclan.co.uk that organise trips over.

Just so that you know this summers event is looking like it is changing location

gemini

Holy Crap - I just looked again at the numbers. Booking flights for slightly different dates comes to £29.99 each way. Inc all taxes and charges (if you pay with Delta, which I can do)

That is out on Fri 18th and returning on Mon 21st. Means we wont get any extra time in Gothenburg but it does make it that much more affordable for all.

Incidentally, that would be cheaper than what I would pay to drive to an i-series. And LAN admission is cheaper too.

I'd be up for booking this as soon as my next payday comes in. Lets have a show of hands for people who will say, YES lets go for it and will book flights as soon as possible. Just to start the process going.

ZeroG
23rd January 2010, 06:30 PM
You can count me in for sure. All I need is confirmed dates to book time off work.

Looks good assuming I have money and have a job by then.

MadmaN

MadmaN
1st February 2010, 12:45 AM
tickets for summer dreamhack are now on sale!!!

ZeroG
1st February 2010, 09:10 AM
Right before I actually book tickets is everyone going ?

gemini
1st February 2010, 09:16 AM
Ok it appears I got a little over-excited earlier with my math and what not.

I will definately be going, IF I get my contract extended in March / April.

I'm only contracted to then so I need to make sure that I have job stability beyond March / April before spending money on LAN's and plane tickets and things which I may not be able to use if my contract is not renewed.

I will definately be going though if I do get a new contract.

Count me out for this one guys :)

MadmaN
2nd February 2010, 05:42 PM
Does anyone know how long the flight is over to sweden?

ZeroG
2nd February 2010, 06:31 PM
Glasgow - London 1.5 hours
London - Gothenburg 3.0 hours

Times are very rough based on a quick check of 1 airline so I'm not sure how accurate they are.

MadmaN
2nd February 2010, 06:46 PM
so there is no flight from any scottish airlines?
