WE URGENTLY NEED ANOTHER CAR AND DRIVER BEFORE WE CAN EXPAND THE TRIP ANY FURTHER. PLEASE COME FORWARD IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DRIVE DOWN. FUEL WILL BE PAID FOR AND BEER PROVIDED :D
Who's up for it?
Get a group of us travelling down for the biggest UK LAN party.
I have been to loads of these so if you have any questions about the event, location, jargon etc then give me a shout il help you out.
If we could get a group of 5 together we could even enter a tourney as a team, which would be excellent (even if we would get totally fucking pwned in the first round)
Its about a 8hr drive if you stick to the speed limit.
Surely we could arrange a convoy of two or three cars to go down together. I think that would be awesome.
IF you are interested, respond / PM me AS SOON AS POSSABLE. It is critical to get sorted out quickly as seating is done on a first come first served basis.
Check out http://www.multiplay.co.uk (http://www.multiplay.co.uk/) for more information
If you want to come, then it's a good idea to plan to pay for the lan immediately after i37.(10th August) There is a promotion where if you pay early you get something like 20% off for about a month after i37.

Ive been checking out the options available from someone like Arnold Clark and their cheapest van rental (£35 a day) for a Citroen Belingo (http://www.vanatic.co.uk/van/image/133/citroen_berlingo.jpg) would be completely appropriate. Even a van that small would be perfect. We could have all our stuff in there no problem and save two cars from the journey if possable.
Although we would need to sort out a driver, and find a rental company that has offices in both Aberdeen and close to Stoneleigh. Budget are the only potential candidates so far so if anyone can come up with another option then please bring it up.
EDIT
Seems the idea of renting a van is fundementally flawed. Everybody charges about £150 for pickup and drop off at another station so it wouldn't be worth the money.
If we were to do this, we would need as many people as possable to volenteer as drivers.
I am in as the first driver. If anyone else would be able to drive, then please shout up ASAP. I will give you all the information you need to make the journey easy and relaxing.
I am still working potentially borrowing one (for a reduced price) from my employer. I'l let you know how that pans out.

By doing what exactly?
Deep Blue
23rd June 2009, 07:19 AM
Don't have them pick up and drop off the Van, we get a one way hire, trundle down, unload, give van back to depot. Homeward, get van, load it up, unload in aberdeen, take it back to depot.
I will look at prices today, I am sure that if we split it between 6 / 8 of us it'd be worth while, perhaps even keeping the van over the week!
I am happy to arrange for the van cause I'm 10 mins away from most of the car hire companies (budget included). I am also happy to drive it
gemini
23rd June 2009, 08:00 AM
The charge is for picking up the van yourself but leaving it at another depot. Thats what the £150 charge is for.
The theory behind taking a van would be that we would save the price of a few cars. If we aim for 10 people going down, the car arrangement would be something like 4 or 5 cars.
If we could have a van we could get away with two cars, so the price of renting the van and diesel would have to be lower than the price of three return journies across the country in the van. That's the theory.
Deep Blue
23rd June 2009, 08:01 AM
Pretty borderline really aint it?
gemini
23rd June 2009, 08:21 AM
It depends. If it's about the same then both sides have ups and down.
With a van we have fewer drivers but a more complicated journey. Without we obviously dont have the risk of going there with somebody elses vehicle but we need more drivers.

Bump.
We need at least one more person to be in as a driver before we even consider organising a trip. Dave did it last time.
The drive really isnt that bad. You just need to propperly prepare for it. This is something I do all the time and will happily help with should it be required.
Just contact me if you arent sure or are just thinking about it. I'l help make sure it all goes easy.

UPDATE
We really need to start thinking about getting the ball rolling on this one if we are to sort out a trip.
Interested so far.
1. gemini (Driver - Confirmed)
2. SwiftTempest
3. ZeroG
4. MadMan
5. Sinner
6. ScottishDragon (Driver - Unconfirmed)
I know that the people I have marked as drivers are able to drive. So I will be contacting you all shortly (via PM) to confirm that you are definately interested in coming down, and will be prepared to commit to it by buying your ticket in early August. Then that you will be prepared to drive down and take other people and kit with you.
Fuel costs will be shared evenly amongst the group.
With the current list of people who have expressed an intrest, we will need FOUR CARS. If we can get just one more person interested, then we have a team of TEN Going and can enter either two tournaments, or have an A and a B team in one tournament.
Last time we entered the CoD4 tournament and although we got absolutely gubbed I think I speak for everyone when I say that we had a whale of a time getting gubbed.
At this time, anybody who can drive, and has a car but who I have not marked as a driver, then please contact me immediately if you would like to help the journey by driving some of us down. We will go in a convoy as we did last time taking regular enough breaks, (Including at the only KFC in Scotland that can stack a fillit tower burger propperly, or the bacon roll van of ABSOLUTE WIN)
We only need one more person to express an intrest (as driver or otherwise) to allow us a team of 10. If this happens then we can get a big group booking discount :)
If you are interested but not on the list, or are no longer interested then please post ASAP.
Thanks.

Could DeepBlue and Dave please read / reply to PM's please.

gemini
13th July 2009, 10:14 AM
As it stands at the minute, (3/4 drivers got back to me so far) it seems we could be in a good position journey wise.
DeepBlue has expressed an intrest with his Volvo XC70 and ScottishDragon with his Hyundai Getz. Combine that with my Mondeo and between the nine of us we easily have the capacity for all our equipment. A tenth player we COULD fit into the three cars. We will see how big the XC70 is at the pub lunch.
If anyone wants to be that tenth, now is the time to express an intrest. :)
***UPDATE***
If anyone is unsure about comitting, I will be comitting by buying my i38 ticket as soon as they become available after i37.

I know I keep going on about this. But mabey it is time to expand the search for a tenth.
Do you know anyone who might be interested and who would make a good teammate ? Tell them about the trip. We might be able to get a nice trip going :)
Also, it has just become MORE IMPORTANT THAT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSABLE WHO ARE INTERESTED PAY AS SOON AS THE EVENT OPENS SIGNUPS.
I have information suggesting that the dates posted on the MPUK forums (and as a result, here) may not be entirely accurate due to negotiations with the venue.
As a result of this, to give us the best possable chance of sitting together as a group of ten we need as many people as possable to sign up and pay as QUICKLY as possable.
Not forgetting of course that early payments result in big discounts.
Signups and payments for i38 will open either during or immediately after i37 which is in two weeks. Keep an eye here and on the MPUK website for more information.
Thank you.

as for the tourneys though cod4 would be one i would have to say no to as im hoping to be in a team with some people i currently play with online. but its all for fun so i dont midn to much.
cod4 section or would we be seated seperately?
gemini
27th July 2009, 11:30 AM
The hope would be that if we get ten of us from Breachlan travelling down, that the ten of us would then form two teams for a tournament. If anyone wants to come down with us to then splinter off to join another team, thats fine. As long as you let me know that is your intention.
Sinner what kind of car would you have for the journey. Make, Model, Age, Engine, Fuel etc.
Sinner
27th July 2009, 02:17 PM
ford fiesta, 04 reg (one of the newer models), not that many miles for a car its age. only a 1.25 engine but it can drive a fair distance on a full tank

gemini
21st August 2009, 11:36 AM
There is this one here. (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=56)
At £30 a night between three people thats a pretty good deal. Again, il be looking into booking this once I get paid at the end of the month and just after I get back from Stratlan. Need to see how the money works out.
All I'l say about that place is that it is exactly what you would expect from a travel lodge. Clean rooms all of exactly the same standard and layout as every other travel lodge room in the country.
However, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that you can walk to it.
Although you may look at the distance and think it is ok, take my word on this.
It involves crossing a motorway, and at least a three mile walk alongside an unlit dual carridgeway with no padestrian footpath. Trying to walk there and back every night would be suicide.
This means that anyone choosing to stay there will need to take a taxi. Not too expensive if we all chip in together every journey.
There is part of me though that is tempted to camp. Again, il need to see how the money works out after I get back from Stratlan.
Again though I would like to re-itterate how dangerous the road between the racecourse and that hotel is. Please, nobody even consider walking the road. If you want to stay in this particular hotel then thats fine. But please do take the cost of taxis into consideration (Shouldnt be more than a tenner each way)

With the move back to Newbury Racecourse, it is important that we all have the information up to date.
There has been suggestion of a seat picker system similar to Stoneleigh Park. But until that is confirmed we should presume that it will be done the old fasioned way. That is, someone from Multiplay manually seats everyone.
In order to help them do this, and to ensure we are sat together as a group, we need to make sure that our clan tags are all the same.
In your Multiplay account, set your clan to Breachlan
With a capital B, no punctuation, and make sure the spelling is also correct.
Anyone who signs up should make sure this is done to try to ensure we are sat together.

We will need to see exactly how the seating will be done. It could be done via a seat picker or it could be done the old fasioned way where some poor sod from mpuk gets the unenviable task of typing everyones names manually into an excell spreadsheet.
Long as we are all sat together is what matters.
Anyone holding off on paying has another 6 days to take advantage of the cheaper ticket rate. You are highly encouraged to sign up as soon as possable to save some cash and make the journey planning that bit easier :)

So what's the thoughts on accomodation ? Personally I've been looking at hotels and stuff nearby and there are quite a few even within 1 mile. Not sure what the weather would be like in November for camping, I think I would get a bigger tent as that 2 man I have is a bit crap.

Even though the camping last time was absolutely the worst experiance of my life, I am tending towards that again as it is free.
Presumeably, NiceGuy will have his own arrangements for with the rest of his clan (please advise me if this is not the case Dave)
So for now at least its just the three of us. I nominate a room at the Newbury Chievely Travellodge because booked far enough in advance it could be as little as £10 a night for us to stay there.
Someone will have to take an air bed, (we can draw straws or something to decide who gets bed, sofa, airmat.) but it requires someone to pay for the room in advance and then accept cash later on for it. Something that I just cant afford to do right now.

Seating Method has been announced. It's the old fasioned way where everything is done manually.
It is more important as a result that everybody who wants to come pays as soon as they can afford it. We need two more to make up a team of five but at least one of those two MUST be able to drive.
I'l be contacting everyone who expressed an intrest again to check who is still wanting to come. If you do want to come, and are a motorist then please get in contact with me as soon as possable.
Thanks.
***EDIT***
FROM NOW ON, ALL JOURNEY / EVENT CRITICAL INFORMATION WILL APPEAR IN POST 1 IN THIS THREAD. PLEASE BOOKMARK IT AND CHECK REGULARLY.

I simply dont have the money at the minute (or likely to any time soon) to be able to afford the outlay to book the hotel room in advance. I'm trying to save as much cash as possable and even flog some stuff to try to raise some capital for my new laptop.
(I'l be doing i38 on a tiny budget anyway)
If someone could look into the alternatives and post up ASAP we might find us a good deal. ATM It looks like its just you me and Mark thats in for the trip anyway. Doesnt look like at this stage we will get another driver or another player :(

I would be up for that. We can work out exactly who is due who what later on. Fuel bill should be smaller than last time given there will be four in the car :)

It would depend on where the hotel was and what the arrangements were.

My suggestion still stands for the Newbury Chievely Travellodge.
I'l stay off the drink on the Sunday so I can drive us. Other times though a taxi isnt very expensive.

if we all aggree to goto sleep at the same time then sharing a taxi would be ideal .... cant be that much to the hotel? we could always ask on the multiplay forums?
